Woman who drove car on Venice Pier, led short police pursuit is in custody

A woman who drove her car onto the Venice Pier Sunday night, causing mayhem as people jumped out of the way, striking a bicyclist and leading police on a short pursuit, is in custody.

Cellphone video shows people on the pier scrambling to get out of the way as a car drives by, and shouts of "watch it!" can be heard as the car continues down the pier.

Officers responded around 9:45 p.m., as the driver sped down the pier toward officers. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a bicyclist was struck during the incident, but there is no information on the extent of injuries.

The driver continued on as officers jumped out of the way to avoid being hit, and a short pursuit began eastbound on Washington Boulevard.

A PIT maneuver was performed, and the pursuit ended less than a mile from where it began.

An officer was injured with a cut to the hand when they broke the car window to get the woman out of the vehicle.

A DUI investigation is underway.
