LACoFD battles brushfire in the San Gabriel Valley, forward progress stopped

Crews with the Los Angeles County Fire Department are battling a roughly 50-acre brush fire in Azusa, known as the Peak Fire, with 31% contained.

The blaze was reported around 1:09 p.m. in the area of N. San Gabriel Canyon Road and N. Ranch Road. Around 3:38 p.m., LACoFD said forward progress had stopped,

Aerial footage showed water-dropping aircraft at the scene, with crews mobilizing in the adjacent neighborhood to enforce evacuation.

An evacuation center for people impacted by the Peak Fire has been established at the Memorial Park Recreation Center at 340 N. Orange Place in Azusa.

The blaze comes as a Red Flag Warning has been issued in Southern California. Forecasters say a moderate to strong Santa Ana wind event is expected to increase critical fire danger through Saturday.
