LA Public Library Offers Amnesty For Overdue Items

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hush not. Shout it from the non-fiction aisle. Tell every literary scofflaw you know.

The Los Angeles Public Library system has announced a two-week, no-questions-asked amnesty program for overdue books and other items.

For two weeks beginning Feb. 1, all fines will be forgiven and the use of suspended library cards fully restored if the returned material is in good shape.

Overdue, undamaged books, DVDs, and tapes can be returned to the Central Library downtown or to any of the city's 72 branches.

City Librarian John F. Szabo says he hopes everybody will return overdue items so they can come back and discover all the library has to offer and others can enjoy all the material.
