LA County Supervisor Files Motion To Add Cross To County Seal
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — L.A. County Supervisor Mike Antonovich filed a motion Tuesday to reinstate a cross on the L.A. County seal.
The move comes almost 10 years after its redesign in 2004, when the cross and other images were removed under the threat of legal action by the American Civil Liberties Union.

The new design included a depiction of the mission, which at the time did not have a cross because it was being retrofitted after the Whittier Narrows earthquake. The Mission's cross was put back up in 2009.
Antonovich's spokesman Tony Bell told KNX1070's Vytas Safronikas it's simply an architectural fact that there is a cross on the San Gabriel Mission and says the supervisor's motion simply seeks to fix the inaccuracy.

"Currently it depicts an inaccurate picture of the San Gabriel Mission," Bell said.
"In 2004, when the county seal was redesigned, the Mission did not have a cross on it. It had fallen during the earthquake. Subsequently, that cross has been restored. We believe the accuracy of real life should be depicted on our county seal."
Antonovich's motion is expected to be reviewed by the full Board of Supervisors Tuesday.
