Jailer Arrested In Connection With Bail-Solicitation Scheme

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A jailer was has been arrested for participating in a bail-solicitation scheme, police said Wednesday.

Leonard Ramirez, 42, who worked as a civilian detention officer at the Van Nuys jail, is suspected of collaborating with bail agents and receiving compensation for providing inmate information, Los Angeles police officials said.

The department's Special Operations Division, a branch of Professional Standards Bureau, arrested Ramirez as the result of an investigation into complaints of unlawful bail solicitation at the Van Nuys Jail.

Ramirez was arrested Monday on suspicion of accepting bribes and was released Tuesday.

The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for consideration of charges, police said.
