Inside SoCal | Hospital of Emotions

A vacant hospital takes on new meaning thanks to 70 artists, four floors, 80 rooms, and eight emotions. The math checks out on this unforgettable experience in central Los Angeles.

Hospital of Emotions

Hospitals naturally evoke a wide range of emotions. When the House of Art and Dreams and ROYVA learned of St. Vincent Hospital's remarkable legacy, serving the community for more than 160 years before closing in 2020, they saw an opportunity to reimagine the space through art.

For a limited time, the former hospital is home to Hospital of Emotions, an immersive exhibition featuring 80 rooms transformed by local and international artists. Their installations invite visitors to explore the emotions often associated with hospitals: resilience, hope, fear, and more.

Each work is shaped by the hospital itself, incorporating the existing architecture, patient rooms, and medical equipment as part of the artistic canvas. The result is something hard to explain, but as advertised: emotional. Learn more at hospitalofemotions.com

Note: This art installation is presented in partnership with St. Vincent Behavioral Health Campus, which plans to revitalize and reopen the campus with a particular focus on individuals facing behavioral health and housing challenges.
