A homeowner in Riverside was in critical condition after being shot in a home invasion robbery.

The incident was one in a string of similar events to have occurred in the Riverside neighborhood over recent weeks, and as a result neighbors are banding together to up their security and provide their families with the necessary safety.

It was the third home invasion robbery in the area, but the first that resulted in injury to one of the residents.

The robbery unfolded just after 4:40 a.m. Sunday in the 18000 block of Moss Road near Merlot Court, when three suspects, all men, broke into the home and shot the homeowner during an attempted robbery.

Suspects fired at the victim after he confronted them.

The victim was rushed to the hospital where he was initially said to be in critical condition, but has since stabilized and is expected to survive.

He lives in the home with his wife and their children.

"It's obvious that these are all near each other," said Riverside Police Department Officer Ryan Railsback. "Right now our detectives have been investigating all three and using all the resources they have at their disposal."

As expected, neighbors in the neighborhood are on high-alert, especially after a nearby home was invaded just a week prior to Sunday's events.

The occupants of that home - a husband, wife and 11-year-old daughter - were directed to a bathroom by the armed suspects, where they were bound by duct tape.

Those neighbors are now teaming up to pay a security detail to guard their community.

"You're used to being in a quiet neighborhood with nothing like this happening," said one of the residents pitching in for safety.

It still isn't immediately clear if the string of crimes are related.

No suspects have been arrested in connection with any of the incidents.
