Hockey Round-Up: Kings Lose In Berlin; Ducks Win In Stockholm
TODAY IN HOCKEY (CBS) — The Los Angeles Kings and the Anaheim Ducks finished up a season-opening European tour...to mixed results.
Yesterday, the Kings opened their season with a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers in front of an enthusiastic Stockholm audience.
Meanwhile, the Ducks lost 4-1 to the Buffalo Sabres in Helsinki, Finland.
Today, both the hometown teams swapped opponents to finish off their brief European jaunt.
First, the Kings played the Sabres in the first-ever NHL game held in Berlin, Germany.
With under a minute to go in the second, LA was down 3-0 but the Kings had a power play and they cut the lead to 3-1.
The Sabres pulled away in the third with a goal by Drew Stafford. Buffalo beat the Kings 4-2 and the Sabres went 2-0 in Europe.
The Ducks fared better in Stockholm where they faced off against the NY Rangers.
The score was tied 1-1 when Bobby Ryan scored a goal to put the Ducks ahead.And that's how the game ended, Ducks on top, 2-1.
