Girl, 12, Killed While Trying To Pick Up Fallen Clothes On 60 Freeway In Riverside

RIVERSIDE (CBS) A 12-year-old girl was struck and killed as she ran across the westbound Riverside (60) Freeway picking up clothes that had fallen from a car, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Eunice Flores was hit by a white Mercedes east of the Ontario (15) Freeway shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday just west of the city of Riverside, CHP Officer Z. Wenger said. The Riverside resident had been trying to pick up clothes after they fell out of suitcase strapped to the car roof.

Firefighters and CHP officers found the girl's body in the third lane from the left.

The coroner pronounced her dead at 11:15 p.m.

The westbound side of the freeway was shut down for approximately 90 minutes, Wenger said.

The man driving the Mercedes was not cited.

No information was given about whom the girl was driving with and whether they were cited.
