Gas Prices In Southland Drop To Lowest Levels In Nearly 6 Years

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  Gas prices continue to drop around the Southland with many areas recording the lowest amount -- on average -- in nearly six years.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Sunday to its lowest amount since May 18, 2009, decreasing 1 cent to $2.531.

The average price has dropped 13 consecutive days, decreasing 15.3 cents, including 1.4 cents on Saturday. It is 9.5 cents less than one week ago, 30.2 cents lower than one month ago and $1.108 below what it was one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The Orange County average price dropped today to its lowest amount since May 16, 2009, decreasing nine-tenths of a cent to $2.504. It has dropped 12 consecutive days, decreasing 15.3 cents, including 1.6 cents on Saturday.

The Orange County average price is 9.2 cents less than one week ago, 28.8 cents lower than one month ago and $1.12 below what it was one year ago.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Inland Empire dropped today to its lowest amount since May 15, 2009, decreasing 1.3 cents to $2.48.

The average price in Riverside and San Bernardino counties has dropped 12 consecutive days, decreasing 16.2 cents, including 2.1 cents on Saturday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 11.2 cents less than one week ago, 30.6 cents lower than one month ago and $1.153 below what it was one year ago.

The dropping pump prices are the result of the "collapse" of wholesale gasoline prices to their lowest amount since December 2008, said Jeffrey Spring, the corporate communications manager of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
