Gang Member Gets Death For Hate-Crime Murder Of Girl, 14

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Latino gang member, who killed a 14-year-old black girl in a racially motivated shooting in Los Angeles, has been sentenced to death.

Superior Court Judge David Wesley said the 2006 killing of Cheryl Green was a "cold, vicious murder" based on Jonathan Fajardo's animus toward African-Americans before sentencing him on Friday. Wesley said Fajardo fatally stabbed a potential witness because fellow gang members believed he might be talking to police about Green's shooting death.

Fajardo declined to address the court during his sentencing.

Green's mother told City News Service that she believes Fajardo deserves the death penalty.
