Former Third Grade LAUSD Teacher Sentenced To 25 Years For Molesting 13 Children

SAN FERNANDO (CBSLA.com) — A former LAUSD teacher was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in state prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for life after being charged with molesting over a dozen former students, according to the District Attorney's Office.

The former third grade Telfair Elementary School teacher pleaded no contest last month to 13 counts of lewd acts on a child.

Paul Chapel, 51, was arrested in October 2011 and charged with sexually abusing three girls and a boy, according to a press release.

Prosecutors added charges involving nine more children in May.

The molestations reportedly took place between September 2006 and April 2011, according to authorities.

Chapel was hired in 1998 by Los Angeles Unified School District and was assigned to a Northridge elementary school.

He was transferred to Telfair Elementary School later that year after he was arrested on suspicion of molesting his adopted son's friend at his home. That case ended in a hung jury.
