First Image Emerges Of Hawthorne Officer Shot In The Line Of Duty

HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — A Hawthorne police officer who was wounded in the line of duty last Saturday appears to be on the mend.

The first image of Officer Williams emerged Friday on the Hawthorne Police Department's Facebook page.

The department wrote, "Officer Williams who was shot last Saturday is still in good spirits and making progress on his recovery."

It went on to explain that the officer's right femur had to be replaced with a metal rod.

Officer Williams had confronted a man suspected of being armed with a gun and machete at a storage facility, and was shot on Nov. 19.

The incident unfolded in the 4800 block of Rosecrans Avenue in Hawthorne.

The suspect was also shot and hospitalized.
