Female Bicyclist Killed In Collision With Bus Was Training For Ironman Triathlon

MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — A female bicyclist killed in a collision with a Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus in Malibu was apparently training for an Ironman Triathlon.

The 36-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash Saturday afternoon in the 25000 block of Pacific Coast Highway.

The woman lost control of her bicycle after some trucks passed her and her handlebar hit a parked car, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Phillip Brooks said. She then veered into the bus, was dragged beneath and crushed.

The bus, in service on the 534 line, was heading eastbound on PCH at the time of the crash. The driver was not arrested, Brooks said, but the investigation continues.

The woman's name has been withheld pending notification of her family.

Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call the sheriff's Malibu/Lost Hills station at (818)878-1808.
