Ex-Cudahy Official Pleads Guilty to Bribery, Extortion
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A former Cudahy code enforcement director pleaded guilty Tuesday to federal extortion and bribery charges.
Angel Perales admitted to accepting $17,000 in bribes to approve the opening of a pot shop in the city.
Perales was the first of three former Cudahy officials expected to plead guilty in the case. Ex-Councilman Osvaldo Conde and former Mayor David Silva were also charged in the criminal complaint.
Perales, Conde and Silva took cash from a marijuana dispensary owner working as an FBI informant, according to an affidavit filed in support of the charges.
The three men face up to 30 years in federal prison and fines of $500,000 each.
Perales is expected to be sentenced Oct. 22.
