Double Murder Suspect Shot To Death During Standoff

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies have shot and killed a man they were trying to arrest in a murder investigation.

A sheriff's statement says 28-year-old Tory Reed of Rialto was shot Tuesday after a standoff at an apartment in an unincorporated San Bernardino area.

Authorities say Reed was a suspect in two killings that occurred Sunday morning in Colton. When deputies tried to arrest Reed, he barricaded himself in the apartment. Neighbors were evacuated.

For several hours, Reed refused calls to surrender peacefully.

Around 6 p.m., authorities used a tank to rip out the apartment's front doors and a living room window. The Sheriff's Department says Reed then charged at detectives and was shot. He died at the scene.
