Spam takes a lot of hits by food snobs. Personally, I've never had a problem with it. (Its fat content is higher than I'd like, but otherwise....)
So why is haggis, so praised as a 'national delicacy' in Scotland? Haggis, for the uninitiated, is a mix of various organ-meats from sheep, stewed inside a sheep's stomach.
Never had it? Well, you're about to get your chance, in a more familiar --Americanized-- version: haggis-flavored potato chips. All together now: yummmmmm.
A North Carolina importer is bringing in haggis chips in January. These are the very same chips that won "Product of the Year" this year, at the Scottish Food Excellence Awards. Obviously, they didn't let Spam enter.
