Different Cody, Same Results (So Far) For Servite

Rahshaun Haylock

(CBS) -- No this isn't the guy who's 2nd half performances were simply defined as magic. No he's not the same guy who's best work was usually done when he didn't stick to the script.  And no this isn't the guy that led his school to its first win over their archrival in 21 years.

That guy is Cody Fajardo.  One of the best players to come out of the Servite program, ever.  He's now at the University of Nevada.  This guy is a first year starter and has some pretty large shoes to fill.  This guy is (3) Servite junior QB, Cody Pittman.  Like his predecessor, Pittman's numbers won't always wow you.  Also like his predecessor, the end result so far has been W's.  Pittman even did something, in his very first start, that the other Cody never accomplished.  That is beat a defending state champion.  So far so good.

How good this Servite team can be remains to be seen.  Because the Friar defense has been so dominant to start the season, Pittman, unlike the other Cody, has yet been called upon to win a game for Servite. That opportunity could present itself tonight.  The Friars will take on (9) Edison at Cerritos College.  The Chargers represent the toughest challenge for the Friars so far this season.

Edison is always well-coached and always proficient on the offensive side of the ball.  The Friar defense can surely be put to the test.  A defense that has only given up 14 points all season.  Both 4th quarter TDs with Servite already having the game in the bag.  This has afforded Pittman the luxury of being seen and not heard so to speak.

Pittman is averaging a mere 101 yards per game through the air, but he's been extremely accurate.  The junior's completion percentage has risen each game.  For the season, he's completing 76% of his passes (32/42) and thrown just one INT.  Poise under pressure will be key tonight.  The Chargers have 12 sacks through three games.  Four players have multiple sacks led by Michael Douthwaite's three.
