Man killed in shooting outside Westfield Culver City mall, multiple suspects arrested
A man was shot and killed outside the Westfield Culver City mall on Friday night, in what police say was a robbery that escalated with gunfire.
The Culver City Police Department said the shooting happened outside the Macy's store near the north parking lot at around 7:20 p.m. An armed suspect confronted other people in the parking lot, and shots were exchanged.
Officers said a man suffering from gunshot wounds was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified him as 25-year-old Angel Torres, and Culver City police later said he was a suspect in the robbery.
Police said another man who was shot during the same incident was located at a local hospital a short time later, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He has been identified as the second robbery suspect, Kejuan Griggs, 27, of Los Angeles.
Griggs was arrested for murder, two counts of attempted murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery and is being held on $4.25 million bail, according to CCPD.
Kelsi Ann Taplette, 28, of Los Angeles, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and accessory after the fact, and is being held on $50,000 bail.
Culver City PD said investigators believe there are more people involved who were victims of the robbery. Detectives are actively seeking to identify and speak with these individuals as part of the ongoing investigation.
