Investigation underway after man wounded in shootout with Covina police
A man was hospitalized after being wounded during an alleged shootout with police in Covina on Friday morning.
In a news release shared by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, who were assisting the Covina Police Department with the investigation, deputies said that police were called to the 200 block of Grandview Avenue at around 11:30 a.m. for reports of shots fired in the area.
"When officers arrived, the suspect exited the location and began firing rounds at responding officers, at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred," the release said.
After briefly retreating into a home in the area, deputies said that the suspect exited and surrendered. He was taken into custody without further incident, they said.
The suspect has not yet been identified as the investigation continues. Detectives said that the handgun they believed was used during the shooting was recovered at the scene.

The suspect was booked at the Covina Police Department for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
