Coroner's Officials Confirm Journalist Michael Hastings Died In Fiery Hancock Park Crash

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Journalist Michael Hastings was identified as the victim of a fiery crash earlier this week, coroner's officials confirmed Thursday.

The 33-year-old award-winning journalist and war correspondent was killed Tuesday morning in the Hancock Park neighborhood.

Officials would not confirm the driver's identity pending further tests, and on Wednesday the FBI was able to confirm it was Hastings through fingerprints.

His cause of death was still pending.

Hastings, a contributing editor at Rolling Stone, won a George Polk Award for magazine reporting for his cover article "The Runaway General" in 2010.

WikiLeaks tweeted Wednesday stating Hastings had contacted the organization's lawyer to say he was being watched by the FBI.
