Controversial Member Kicked Off Saugus School Board

SAUGUS ( — A controversial member has been voted off the Saugus Union School Board.

The board voted 4-1 Tuesday to vacate the seat held by Stephen Winkler after discovering he doesn't live in the district. Saugus is a community in Santa Clarita.

"We did do the investigation as to where his residence, where he lives. We found a lot of discrepancies there...hence the investigation and the meeting this evening," board President Judy Umeck told CBS2/KCAL9's Dave Bryan.

The former trustee has come under fire for posting content on social media sites that seemed to support Nazi Germany and animal mutilation. Winkler claims he didn't write the posts and that his account had been hacked.

After the meeting, Winkler said he didn't intend to appeal the board's decision or to run for his position again.

"Let me just say that, look at all the fun they're going to be missing. They won't have Winkler to kick around anymore because, gentlemen, this is my last press conference. It's time for me to get reacquainted with my family," Winkler told Bryan.
