Female Suspect Nabbed After Wild Pursuit That Stretched From Ventura To Orange County

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The California Highway Patrol Thursday night chased a suspect from Ventura County through the San Fernando Valley and then southbound on the 5 through Orange County.

The car is reportedly a rental out of Oklahoma.

Justin Jaeger, reporting overhead in Sky 9, said the suspect was going to be charged with reckless driving, failing to yield, speeding and a host of other offenses as the suspect led officials on the chase that lasted more than an hour.

The chase began in Ventura County and at times the suspect sped on the 101 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley going as fast as 100 m.p.h.

Jaeger also said 5-7 cars have been chasing the suspect's vehicle at any given time along the route.

As of 8:30 p.m., the suspect was headed southbound on the 101 headed to Hollywood.

Approaching the 9 o'clock hour, the suspect was in the Downey and Norwalk area southbound on the 5 Freeway.

At various times, the chase occured on the 101, 5, 22 and 55 Freeways.

The suspect got off the 22 Freeway in Orange County and led police through surface streets.

The suspect -- who appeared to be a female -- ended up driving up to a home in Orange. She ran for the front door but was tackled by police just after getting into the front door.

The CHP had a chase earlier Thursday evening in the Lancaster area. That suspect was wanted for excessive speeding.

He was taken into custody without incident.
