Calif. Sends Aircraft, Personnel To Aid East Coast During Sandy

LOS ANGELES (AP)— The California National Guard and the state Emergency Management Agency have dispatched aircraft and rescue personnel to aid the East Coast during the superstorm.

Gov. Jerry Brown said Monday that he ordered the deployment of two helicopters, a Boeing C17 and two C130 military transport aircraft to Charlotte, North Carolina, along with 83 personnel trained in search and rescue, medical aid, and other emergency response operations.

On Saturday, the Emergency Management Agency sent urban search and rescue teams from various California fire departments to Virginia and other sites along the East Coast.

Utility company Pacific Gas & Electric says it has sent utility crews and equipment to help with power restoration efforts.
