Crews Get Handle On Brush Fire Burning Near Homes In Hollywood Hills
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — A brush fire broke out Thursday in the Hollywood Hills, but no homes were immediately threatened, officials said.
Roughly three acres of brush were burning near Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Tianna Road. The fire broke out at about 12:15 p.m.
Firefighters were positioned near the homes and did not expect any of the structures to be damaged by the flames, according to LAFD's Nicholas Prange.
"I looked outside and thought it was snow," said Hollywood Hills resident Christiana Martini. "It was right on top of the hill."
The fire also caused an electrical outage to the neighborhood. Los Angeles Fire officials say the power company is aware and working to restore service as soon as it is safe.
Fire crews did not immediately know what caused the fire.
Dangerously high temperatures were forecast to start Thursday and last into the weekend.
"The weather conditions, the wind, the fuels are at this point now at this time of year where they're ready to burn and burn fast," said Asst. Chief Corey Rose.
"One of the biggest things we tell our people is to hydrate and hydrate and hydrate," Rose said.
Firefighters have already battled back one brush fire in Simi Valley along the 118 Freeway, keeping it at three acres.
