Boat Operator Detained After Vessel Runs Aground In Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — Authorities Sunday helped two people ashore after their 38-foot sport fishing boat ran aground in Newport Beach.

A statement issued by the Newport Beach Fire Department said authorities responded to the vessel about 2:22 a.m. It was located in the surf line at Prospect Street.

Upon arrival, officials transported one crew member to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

A second individual, who was accused of boating under the influence and resisting arrest, was detained by Newport Beach Police, authorities said.

The boat was subsequently removed from the beach, the statement added

An investigation was under way.
