America celebrates her 241st birthday this week, and as a city that knows how to party, there's no shortage of celebratory events. After the revelry and fireworks have died down, enjoy an evening of internationally acclaimed tango, National Fried Chicken Day, a concert at the Hollywood Bowl, and the opening of a new play at the Kirk Douglas Theatre.

If you just can't wait until tomorrow to start celebrating the 4th of July, join a good ol' fashioned pub crawl in Santa Monica. It's America's Big Day, and there are endless ways to celebrate in Los Angeles. AmericaFest is back at the Rose Bowl for its 91st year, with performances and a Family Fun Zone preceding their world-renowned fireworks display at 9:00pm, as is the Hollywood Bowl's annual Fireworks Spectacular featuring Pentatonix. Cinespia will be showing the 1993 classic "Jurassic Park," followed by a fireworks display at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, while downtown Grand Park will host its free, fifth annual Grand Park + The Music Center's 4th of July Block Party. World-renowned Argentinian tenor Marcelo Álvarez joins the six-piece ensemble Tango Spleen for a night honoring Argentina's greatest tango composers. Internationally recognized as one of the most important tenors of this era, Álvarez has been acclaimed at nearly all the great opera houses, and will showcase his virtuosity with over a dozen songs tonight. The performance is part of The Broad's Celebrity Opera Series.

Celebrate National Fried Chicken Day

Today fried chicken lovers across the country celebrate National Fried Chicken Day, created in honor of the dish introduced to the South by Scottish immigrants who brought their tradition of deep-frying chicken. Gourmet hot dog restaurant Dog Haus is using the day to launch their brand new crispy, umami-rich Bad Mutha Clucka chicken sandwich at all locations, while traditional steakhouse BOA will serve up a plate of perfectly crisp, classic Southern Fried Chicken and sides. For a twist, try E.P.&L.P.'s Fijian-Chinese-Indian-Australian inspired Crispy Skin Chicken with black vinegar, chili, lemon, and housemade chili jam, or their Chicken & Waffles with sweet chili and Thai-infused maple syrup. Or keep it simple yet sophisticated with L.A.'s oldest cafeteria-style eatery, Clifton's Republic, serving organic, farm-to-table chicken tenders and golden french fries.

The Beatles believed that "All You Need Is Love," and Ringo Starr is keeping that message alive with his annual Worldwide Peace and Love Birthday Celebration. Almost a decade ago the artist held the first Peace and Love event in Chicago, and has been celebrating his birthday the same way in different cities every since. Special guests including Jenny Lewis, David Lynch, and Ed Begley Jr., will join Ringo with other friends and family for performances and a Peace and Love salute at noon. The event is free and open to the public.
