Riverside County student arrested for bringing metal knuckles to school
A Banning High School student was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly bringing metal knuckles to school and threatening another student, according to police.
School resource officers were made aware of the threat at around 9:20 a.m. at the school, which is in the 100 block of W. Westward Avenue, according to the Banning Police Department.
When officers attempted to make contact with the student, he ran and jumped a perimeter fence before fleeing from the school, police said. They eventually found the student, who hasn't been identified because he's a juvenile, near San Gorgonio Avenue and Lincoln Street.
The student then "began physically resisting officers and failed to comply with verbal commands" when police tried to arrest him. They were eventually able to take him into custody.
While the boy was uninjured during the incident, Banning Police Captain Brandon Smith said one of the officers was injured. They were treated for a minor injury at a nearby regional medical center before being released, police said.
The boy was booked at Riverside Juvenile Hall on suspicion of possession of brass knuckles, resisting arrest, possession of a weapon on school grounds and making criminal threats, Banning police said.
Anyone who knows more was asked to contact BPD's Detective Bureau at (951) 922-3170.
