Missing Alameda County 3-month-old that prompted Amber Alert found, mother arrested, police say
The California Highway Patrol said an Amber Alert for a missing 3-month-old infant from Alameda County has been lifted after the child was found in Southern California.
Early Wednesday morning, authorities issued the alert for Alameda, San Joaquin, Kern and Los Angeles counties for the infant. The 3-month-old was last seen around 1 a.m. on June 28 near McBride Lane and Underwood Avenue in Hayward.
Police identified the suspect in the abduction as 42-year-old Marina Kazakova, the boy's mother. According to a statement from Hayward police, Kazakova allegedly failed to return the child to his father Tuesday, as required by a court-ordered custody agreement.
Around 12:20 p.m., the CHP posted on social media that the child was located.
In a statement, Hayward police said CHP officers located the suspect vehicle in a parking lot near Wilshire Boulevard and Veteran Avenue in Los Angeles. Kazakova was located nearby and was taken into custody without incident.
The child was found safe and unharmed. Police said officers were working to reunite the 3-month-old with his father.
"The Hayward Police Department extends its sincere gratitude to the California Highway Patrol, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and our allied law enforcement partners for their outstanding collaboration, dedication, and swift response in bringing this incident to a safe resolution," police said in a statement.
