4 More LAUSD Bargaining Units Ratify Contracts, Secure Salary Raises

LOS ANGELES ( — Four Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) bargaining units have ratified their contracts, providing salary raises to employees for the first time in several years, officials said.

On Wednesday, the Associated Administrators of Los Angeles (AALA), the AALA Unit J, the Teamsters Local 572 Unit S and the Los Angeles School Police Association Unit A secured multi-year pay increases and other financial incentives for employees, district officials said.

According to the LAUSD, employees have dealt with sharp budget cuts and furlough days over the past several years.

"We are committed to securing a good salary increase and new positions to staff our schools as we work together to support school communities and strategically target resources to our highest-needs students," Superintendent John E. Deasy said.

Employees of the Associated Administrators of Los Angeles (AALA), the AALA Unit J and the Teamsters Local 572 Unit S will each receive a lump-sum payment for the 2013-14 school year, along with a salary increase over the next three years, district officials said.

The agreement will also provide the AALA with a financial incentive for 2,320 principals and administrators who demonstrate strong work performances over the course of the 2015-16 school year.

According to the LAUSD, 234 managers within the AALA Unit J additionally made a commitment to participate in a pilot evaluation process and payroll optimization within their agreement.

A press release states that 3,100 members of the Teamsters Local 572 Unit S, made up of school administrative assistants, plant managers, cafeteria managers, area operations supervisors, bus supervisors and food services supervisors will benefit from their agreement.

The agreement that the Los Angeles School Police Association Unit A reached will provide 421 members with annual salary raises over the next three years, authorities said.

According to officials, school police officers, detectives and school safety officers within the unit will be eligible to receive performance incentives for participation in a pilot evaluation process.

Authorities said that the LAUSD has reached new agreements with a total of nine bargaining units.

Teachers, nurses and counselors were not affected by the latest salary increases, a press release states.

However, LAUSD reports that they are committed to securing similar multi-year raises for United Teachers Los Angeles employees prior to starting school on Aug. 12.
