2nd Round of Playoffs Podcast

(CBS) - Traditions are made to be broken. On Wednesday we will all witness a tradition broken. We knew it was coming but now the reality is steadily sinking in. Ordinarily, the City Section 2nd round games would be held Wednesday before Thanksgiving. That won't take place this season due to furlough days in LA Unified. Therefore, there will be games on Friday in both the City Section and Southern Section.

Friday it is. Let's play ball!

Dorsey (10-1) and Taft (8-3) will meet in a rematch of a game played earlier this season. A game won by Dorsey 37-24. Dorsey quarterback Joseph Gray finished with 350 yards in the air. It was the season opener for Taft. Another matchup of note is a rematch of last season's City Section Championship between Crenshaw (9-2) and visiting Narbonne (6-5). The Gauchos are an extremely young team with 17 starters that are underclassmen led by sophomore quarterback Troy Williams.

The game of the week is in the Southern Section. Mission Viejo (11-0) takes on Santa Margarita (9-2) in a 2nd round PAC-5 matchup. The Eagles, led by first year head coach Harry Welch, were impressive in their first round 49-3 win over Sunset League runner-up Edison. Mission Viejo has been a favorite of many to win the PAC-5 and could be up against their toughest test of the season. The game will be played at Saddleback College.

All the number one seeds made it through except Mid-Valley number one, Azusa falling to Village Christian 31-24.

Lastly, an uneventful season for a defending section champ has come to an end. Defending Inland Division Champ, Chaparral had their seaon end to Upland 40-35 last week. The Pumas never got it going. Once again the Pumas took on a brutal non-league schedule in which they didn't fare well at all. Chaparral started the season 0-4. It was a season that featured significant injuries and disappointments for a team with aspirations of repeating as CIF Champs and claiming a State Bowl bid --none of which came to fruition. The Pumas finished the season 4-7.
