2 Drivers Killed In Separate Crashes On 605 Freeway That Occurred Within Minutes Of Each Other
LAKEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say two people were killed in separate accidents on the 605 Freeway that occurred within minutes of each other.
The California Highway Patrol says it received a call just after 1 a.m. Saturday of the crashes on the northbound lanes of the thoroughfare near the Carson Street exit.
The first collision involved two cars, which appeared to have collided near the HOV lane, causing the driver of one to be ejected.
That person was pronounced dead at the scene. Another person had to be rescued from the vehicle, and was transported to a trauma center.
A third person was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The second accident happened a quarter-mile north of the first, and involved a single vehicle that collided with the center divider.
Authorities say the driver in that collision appeared to have exited the car and was struck by another vehicle. That person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol says both incidents are under investigation.
