LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The California Department of Public Health has released its list of hospitals they have fined for safety violations.
One hospital, in Murrieta, was find $100,000 for violations that led to the death of an infant in 2010.
The hospital in question, Rancho Springs Medical Center, is accused of failing to take the necessary precautions when the fetal heart rate of the child steadily declined.
The report also lists 12 other hospitals that had violations that garnered penalties.
County USC was fined $75,000 after leaving a surgical instrument inside a heart patient. And the Motion Picture and Television Hospital was fined $50,000 after it was discovered they left a surgical sponge inside a patient.
