The bus was stopped at the corner of Soto Street and Lancaster Avenue across from Hazard Park near Boyle Heights around 8:20 a.m. when the object — possibly made of metal — broke out a window on the right side.
The girl who was seated there was hurt by flying glass, but her injuries were not considered serious and she was shortly released. The rest of the kids were transferred to a replacement bus.
One mother who rushed to the scene was relieved that her daughter was unharmed, but horrified that the incident even occurred.
"How dare you hurt children on a bus only trying to go to school, innocent kids," she said.
Police searched the neighborhood for whomever was responsible, but no suspects were in custody.
