Caring for aging parents while living a long distance away can be highly stressful. Long-distance family caregivers can't see their loved one every day, they can't rush to their side in case of an emergency, and they are left judging their loved one's well-being through phone and video calls.
The majority of these seniors want to age in place. They do not want to leave their homes and move into assisted living or skilled nursing facilities. They want to remain in the privacy of their home because it is comfortable and familiar to them.
When Fall arrives it brings cooler weather in most regions across the country. We all tend to bundle up a bit more and eat warmer, heartier foods. Cooler weather can be challenging for those with dementia. As the disease deteriorates the brain it decreases its ability to give the instructions necessary to do many everyday things, including staying warm.
Parkinson's disease is defined as a chronic and progressive movement disorder that kills nerve cells in the brain. Some of those nerves contain a chemical called dopamine that sends messages to the part of the brain that controls muscle movement and coordination. As Parkinson's disease progress the amount of dopamine produced by the brain decreases and the person cannot control their movements.

This can create a time of high risk for seniors whose health is compromised and who may be frail. Proper, well-informed recovery care is essential to their long term health.
