Former President George H.W. Bush is lying in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda for a second day Tuesday, giving the public another chance to view the casket of the nation's 41st commander-in-chief.

The former president will lie in state until Wednesday, when a state funeral will be held for him at the National Cathedral.

Former NFL star Peyton Manning was among those to pay his respects Tuesday afternoon.

The former Indianapolis Colts quarterback moved past the casket solemnly to pay tribute to the former president.

Tearful Cindy McCain approaches casket

A tearful Cindy McCain was escorted by Sen. Mitch McConnell, but approached the casket on her own.

She entered, bowed her head in prayer, kissed her fingers and then placed her hand on a flag-draped casket.

Trumps visit Bush family at Blair House

President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump drove across the street to Blair House, the White House guest house, to visit the Bush family at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The press was not allowed inside to hear their conversations, but former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush greeted the Trumps outside.

The 41st president's funeral will be filled with high-profile current and former U.S. officials, as well as foreign dignitaries.

Along with President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama will attend. Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will also be in attendance.

Prince Charles of England is expected to attend as well.

Bob Dole stands to salute Bush's casket

Former Sen. Bob Dole, a longtime political rival of the 41st president and fellow World War II veteran, paid his respects in the Capitol Rotunda by standing from his wheelchair to salute Mr. Bush.

The moment was captured by Jim McGrath, spokesman for the Bush family.

"A last, powerful gesture of respect from one member of the Greatest Generation, @SenatorDole" to another," McGrath tweeted.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush thanked Dole for his gesture.

First lady and former first lady tour White House

Former First Lady Laura Bush visited the White House midday Tuesday for a tour of the Christmas decorations with First Lady Melania Trump.

The current first lady attended Barbara Bush's funeral in April -- Mr. Trump did not.

Bush's service dog Sully pays his respects

The former president's service dog, Sully, visited the Capitol and his old owner's casket on Tuesday morning.

Sully has been the president's service dog for the last few months, and will be serving others at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Public files in to pay their respects

Members of the public continued to stream through the U.S. Capitol Rotunda Tuesday to view the casket of the former president.

Along with members of the public, high-profile names like CIA Director Gina Haspel paid respects.

Trump to visit with Bush family

President Trump, who visited the Capitol to pay his respects along with First Lady Melania Trump Monday night, will visit the Bush family at Blair House near the White House.

The first lady has also invited former First Lady Laura Bush to the White House to view the Christmas decorations.
