Tasha's To Do List: Dec. 4-7

FORT WORTH (KRLD) -- The holiday season is in full swing, and you and your family can celebrate with food, performances and music of all kinds! Here are some of the best things happening across DFW this weekend.

-- It isn't the Christmas Season until you have seen this on TV or in play form. Now through December 27, check out "A Christmas Carol" at Wylie Theater.

-- If you dig roller derby, this is Christmas come early for you. The 2nd Annual Roller Derby World Cup Tournament 2014 is happening Thursday through Sunday at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas. Don't let the fact that this thing is being presented by Blood and Thunder Magazine dissuade you from attending. 30 countries will be represented on 3 tracks.

-- If you would prefer a quieter setting Thursday, head over to the House of Blues for singer-songwriter, Grammy winner John Hiatt. This guy has written for a ton of people including Joe Cocker, B.B. King and Bonnie Raitt (Thing Called Love).

-- Over at Northpark Center, David M. Schwarz Architects have created Gingertown. As the name would lead you to believe, the entire thing is a Hansel and Gretel dream: A town made completely of ginger bread. Proceeds benefit Children's Craniofacial Association.

-- The story began in the form of a play almost a century ago by Scottish writer James Barrie. 1954's Broadway musical version of "Peter Pan" came to TV in a live NBC telecast in 1955 with Mary Martin in the lead role. Thursday night, NBC is doing the live thing again with Allison Williams as Peter and Christopher Walken as Captain Hook. The three-hour event is a follow-up to last year's live "The Sound of Music." That broadcast drew 18.6 million viewers so we'll see how this one compares.

Tasha's To Do List

-- Santa Paws is coming to town for pet photos at Operation Kindness, the original and largest no-kill animal shelter in North Texas. This Saturday and Sunday and next Saturday and Sunday, Pet parents can bring their dogs and cats and whole family to sit on Santa's lap and pose for photos. All proceeds benefit Operation Kindness.

-- Friday through the 21 at the Meyerson, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra will play all your favorite Christmas tunes as part of the DSO Christmas Pops.

-- You can also check out a holiday classic that dates back to 1964 beginning Friday and running through Sunday. See Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: The Musical at Bass Hall in Fort Worth.

-- Get into the holiday spirit by strolling the glimmering streets of Waxahachie this weekend and next. Six unique homes, spanning from the Victorian era to the 21st century, will don their holiday finery for two weekends. Be sure to also check out the Christmas festivities in downtown Waxahachie near the courthouse. While you are there, be sure to go by the haunted Catfish Plantation restaurant. Their pecan cobbler is to die for. See what I did there?

-- Do you know what Friday is? It is the 81st anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition! In honor of that, the Flying Saucer in Addison is having a Repeal Day Celebration. They'll have special barrel-aged beer releases, fire sales, and a cocktail inspired Beer Randall. 1920s or 1930s era costumes are encouraged.

-- Take a break from the shopping and take in the music of the season. The Arlington Music Hall Christmas Show is happening Friday and Saturday night and next Friday and Saturday.

-- Saturday night is your chance to see the one and only Melissa Etheridge in person. Check her out at the Winstar Casino.

-- Just in time for Christmas, a huge toy show to check out. The biggest Dallas Toy Show of the year is happening Saturday. They have so many vendors this time that they had to expand to over 50 tables. They also have extended holiday hours -- 9am to 4pm at Valley View Mall.

-- Love, love, love this guy. Just like Justin Timberlake who you may have seen at the AAC last night -- this guy is also awesome at acting, singing and dancing. The only thing I don't like about him is the fact that he discovered Justin Bieber. Check out Usher at the AAC Thursday night.
