Second Child In Tarrant County Dies From Flu As Reports Increase This Season

TARRANT COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) — Health officials in Texas have reported that a second child has died from the flu in Tarrant County.

The child's identity has not been released but officials said the child was four years old and didn't have any underlying health conditions. Officials also said the child had not received the flu vaccine.

Health officials told CBS 11 that in their next flu report, which hasn't been released yet, they've noticed visits to emergency departments for the flu have now topped last season's worst week.

Officials said cases of type A flu have increased from 20 percent to 40 percent. This generally affects a broad group of people of all ages.

Tarrant County had gone several years without a flu-related death before this year's two.
