Record Low Temperatures in April

Unbelievably cold for the month of April as temperatures hover in the 40s Tuesday afternoon with a strong north wind.  Bundle up tonight if you're out.  Or maybe a fire in the fireplace if you still have any wood (can't believe I just typed that sentence on April 23).

Scattered rain will start up later tonight as a weak disturbance in the upper levels works overhead.  Here's the FutureSky Forecast model at 10pm tonight, when the rain should start forming.

Rain will continue off and on through the overnight hours.  We're not expecting anything really heavy...just a chilly rain.

Rain should taper off by daybreak but it will be COLD!  The record low at DFW for Wednesday is 41° set in 1995.  We should get down to 40° at DFW, setting a new record low for the date!

We should get plenty of sunshine on Wednesday, which will help us get warmer.  But highs in the 60s is still ten to fifteen degrees below average for late April.

A lot of folks in town for the Bush Presidential Library dedication on Thursday and the weather should be great.  Partly cloudy skies and temps into the 70s by afternoon.

A weak upper level system will approach from the west on Friday, and bring a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms to North Texas.  The best chance of rain will be north into Oklahoma.  There's a small chance for a strong thunderstorm to develop and bring gusty winds or small hail, but I wouldn't count on that for now.

Looks like we'll have enough moisture around over the weekend that tiny upper level disturbances may trigger a few isolated t'storms both Saturday and Sunday.  It doesn't appear that we'll have anything widespread or you should cancel any outdoor plans.  Temperatures will certainly be warmer late this week and early next.
