Rain & Warm Temperatures Helping Texas Wildflowers
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The fall and winter rains, combined with unusually warm temperatures for this time of year, have created the perfect mix for a spectacular wildflower season this spring.
The splashes of rain will soon lead to splashes of color along the roadsides.
"Because we had that rain, both some rain scattered over the Fall, but also these periodic Winter rains are good for wildflower growth," explained Damon Waitt director of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin.
Fortunately, the flowers that will benefit the most are some of the most magnificent.
"Your bluebonnets, your Indian paintbrush, your anemones…" Waitt said.
The rain has helped both the color and size of the wildflowers.
"We've got bluebonnets already, the size of dinner plates, here at the Wildflower Center," said Waitt. "So, it's looking pretty good.
