FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - It is the end of an era, as US Airways soars into history after its merger with American Airlines. The air carrier's final flight departing from DFW International Airport will leave at 9:45 p.m. on Friday night heading toward Phoenix.

A little bit later is the carrier's actual final flight, ever, from San Francisco to Philadelphia.

After that, American Airlines and US Airways will become one, and complete the final steps of their merger. The last hurdle in their way is merging their reservation systems.

American Airlines hopes to make the switch smoothly, but they are prepared for possible glitches. So far, on Friday, all looked to be running just fine, and travelers have not noticed any problems. "It's nice to be part of history," said US Airways traveler Marion Howell.

"Good luck to them and this transition," added US Airways traveler Debbie Ozanus.

As for the old US Airways logos and signage, DFW International Airport officials said that everything will be changed out after midnight. They plan to take care of the transition quickly, too. American Airlines will have additional people working Saturday to look for glitches or errors.

The airline will also set up a command center to respond to issues. It will be running for two weeks.
