DFW Fire Training Research Center Re-Opens
If you were near DFW airport today, you may have seen the smoke and fire.
But there wasn't an emergency.
It was disaster training at the newly renovated Fire Training Research Center (FTRC), which is considered the top facility for aircraft rescue firefighting training and research in the world.
The center officially re-opened today after a yearlong, $29 million dollar expansion and reinvestment project, $19.2 million of which was funded by the FAA. The improvements include new interactive curriculum, classroom space, a two-story control center for observation, new burn pits, and the only Airbus A380 mockup trainer in the United States.
Since opening in 1995, more than 16,000 firefighters from 29 states and 24 countries have trained at the FTRC.
