General manager Al Avila did not want to discuss specifics of what kind of offer was made to Joakim Soria, or why that offer wasn't beefed up to bring the right-handed reliever back to Detroit.

Lowe would be the fourth pitcher the Tigers have signed in recent weeks, after nabbing Rodriguez, signing Mike Pelfrey on Sunday and inking Jordan Zimmermann to a five-year deal last week.
Tigers general manager and vice president of baseball operations Al Avila praised Pelfrey's clubhouse presence and veteran leadership as other reasons for why Pelfrey was a good fit.
