WWJ Launches 'Missing In the Metro' Series
DETROIT (WWJ) Bringing attention to the hundreds of people missing in Detroit is the focus of "Missing in the Metro" -- a weekly report that will start Monday on WWJ 950.
This partnership with the Detroit Police Department is meant to put a face on the city's missing -- and bring them home.
"In 2011 we had 3,683 missing reports, of those 2,489 were registered recovered," Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee said.
This year there are 2,135 people reported missing, with 988 found.
Even factoring in people who find loved ones and fail to update police -- that leaves lots of people with friends and loved ones tortured with "what ifs."
"This is a great opportunity and I applaud WWJ for engaging us in this process to highlight cases," Godbee said. "For the families that feel disenfranchised because they're not getting any type of attention because of the case, I think this is a way to help bridge that gap."
WWJ's Laura Bonnell will bring WWJ listeners and CBSDetroit readers a new Missing in the Metro report every Monday -- starting this week.
Godbee said he hopes spotlighting the city's missing will keep missing cases alive and in the minds of the public.
