Woman's Body Found In Pond In Shelby Township
SHELBY TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Shelby Township police are investigating the discovery of a woman's body found in a pond near an apartment complex along Utica Road.
Police are trying to determine if the victim is an 18-year-old woman reported missing a week ago.
Lt. Jason Schmitler tells WWJ that contractors found the body in the water Wednesday morning at the Oak Hill Apartments in Shelby Township.
"We did remove a deceased female from the water and she is currently at the morgue - they are going to do an autopsy tomorrow."
Maddy Kirkwood went missing just over a week ago from the same apartment complex.
"I know a few of the neighbors," said Ellie -- who lives in the complex, "and they told me to be careful and to watch out and if I hear anything to let them know.
"Hopefully, it's not her," she said.
UPDATE:
Right around midnight Wednesday night a post on Facebook from a person believed to be Madyson Kirkwood's mother confirmed that the young woman found in the pond was her daughter.
- "It is with a very heavy heart that I have to say today my beautiful, amazing, caring, loving daughter Carolyn Redpath-Kirkwood is no longer with us. Her body was found and recovered this morning in a pond at the Oak Hill Apartments in Shelby Twp. where She went missing from on 9-22-16. It is yet to be confirmed if there was any foul play. Thank you everyone for your support and help in trying to locate her."
