Whirlpool Project Likely To Get Tax Breaks

Whirlpool Corp. is set to get state tax incentives to assist with a new office building and consolidation project in southwest Michigan. The tax incentives are expected to be considered Tuesday at a meeting of the Michigan Economic Growth Authority in Lansing.

Whirlpool last week announced plans for consolidating several owned and leased facilities to three campuses in and near Benton Harbor. The investments include a new building and could be worth close to $87 million while retaining nearly 870 jobs with the company.

Whirlpool has said it expects one-third of the cost will come from incentives from the state and local governments.

Whirlpool is the world's largest appliance maker.
