Water Main Break Closes Cody High School

DETROIT (WWJ) - A water main break along Appoline on Detroit's west side means cancelled classes Monday at Cody High School. Residents complained of water several inches high on the street and big ice ruts that made it impossible to drive through.

However, that doesn't seem to be a problem this morning.

As of early Monday morning, it was possible to drive down Appoline Street; there was no gushing of water or ice flows, but the street for all practical purposes was still two ruts in the pavement, with some cars still encased in snow along the curbside.

Ricky Snow lives on Appoline.

"Well, you got quite a few places that are abandoned; it's got water on," Snow told WWJ Newsradio 950. "I mean, if you really want to try to solve the problem, that's the real major problem. So, I'm just saying as far as that problem, uh, water flowing down the streets, yeah, it does happen quite a bit," Snow added.

With milder temperatures and a shifting of the ground, Snow says he wouldn't be surprised to see even more water main breaks down the road.
