'Under the Eagle' Closes Its Doors
HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) - One of Metro Detroit's iconic Polish restaurants has closed up shop. Under the Eagle, which has been a Hamtramck staple for more than 37 years, is no longer serving up pierogi.
Owner Teresa Peczeniuk told WWJ that business had been tailing off recently.
"At one time, I had five waiters and waitresses, and eight people working in the kitchen. And, at the end, I had two people working in the dining (room) and three people in the kitchen," she said.
The restaurant has been in the same location, on Joseph Campu in Hamtramck, since it opened in the early 1970s.
But, never fear -- there are still quite a few great options for authentic Polish cuisine in Metro Detroit. Visit this link for ideas.
