Two Face Charges After Fleeing, Shooting At Michigan State Trooper

OAK PARK (WWJ) -  Two of the four suspects believed to be responsible for fleeing from and shooting an assault rifle at a Michigan State Trooper in Detroit are now facing multiple charges.

Oak Park police say 22-year-old Clarence Williams and 23-year-old Brittany Pinelton, both of Detroit, were arraigned Monday in the 36th District Court.

Williams is facing seven charges, including assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, discharge of weapon from vehicle at police vehicle, and felony firearm. He was jailed on a $1 million bond.

Pinelton is facing four charges, including fleeing and eluding law enforcement, loaded weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and felony firearm. She was jailed on a $500,000 bond.

Both Williams and Pinelton are due back in court for a preliminary exam on Dec. 14.

The charges stem from an incident on Nov. 29. Police say the incident started when a trooper attempted to stop a Chrysler 300 for a traffic violation in the area of Fenkell and Burgess on Detroit's northwest side. Police say the trooper was forced to pursue the vehicle after the driver refused to stop.

According to Michigan State Police, one of the four suspects began to fire multiple rounds from an assault rifle at the state police car during the four block pursuit in a residential area. The trooper was uninjured.

Detroit police eventually caught up with the suspects' car in the area of Grand River and Stout and arrested Williams and Pinelton, while the other two suspects took off on foot. State police say those final two suspects, a 22- and 21-year-old male from Oak Park, were taken into custody on Nov. 30.

Police say they recovered multiple AK-47s from the suspects' car.
