Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work

DETROIT (WWJ) - If you're traveling this weekend, save yourself some time and patience by planning your route ahead of time to avoid work zones -- because there's going to be a lot of them.

The following projects were announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.

I-96:

In Oakland County, eastbound I-96 will be reduced to a single lane at Kent Lake Road from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday, June 15. The lane closures are needed for ongoing bridge work.

I-275/I-96:

In Oakland County, the left three lanes of northbound I-275/I-96 will be closed at Nine Mile Road from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday. From 6 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday, the left two lanes will be closed. The lane closures are needed for repair to the bridge that takes northbound I-275/I-96 over 9 Mile Road.

In conjunction, the 8 Mile Road ramps to northbound I-275/I-96 will be closed and detoured to 7 Mile Road for the entire weekend.

I-275:

In Wayne County, northbound I-275 will have two lanes closed at Ann Arbor Trail from 10 p.m. Friday until Noon on Saturday for ongoing bridge work.

In Wayne County, southbound I-275 will have two lanes closed at Ann Arbor Trail from 10 p.m. Friday until 8 p.m. Saturday for ongoing bridge work.

In Wayne County, northbound I-275 will have two lanes closed at Ecorse Road from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday for ongoing bridge work.

In Wayne County, southbound I-275 will have two lanes closed at Ecorse Road from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday for ongoing bridge work.

I-94:

In Macomb County, eastbound and westbound I-94 will have one lane open between 23 Mile and County Line roads from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for ongoing resurfacing work.

In Detroit, eastbound and westbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane between Michigan Avenue and I-75 from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for ongoing resurfacing and bridge work. The only entrance ramps that will remain open will be I-75 to east and west I-94, and northbound Lodge to east I-94.

In Wayne County, the right lane of eastbound I-94 will be closed from Middlebelt to Inkster roads from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday for sign work.

In Wayne County, the right lane of westbound I-94 will be closed from M-39 to Telegraph from 4 a.m. until 9 a.m. Saturday for sign installation.

In Wayne County, the right lane of westbound I-94 will be closed from Inkster to Middlebelt roads from 3 a.m. until 9 a.m. Sunday for sign installation.

I-696:

In Macomb County, the left lane of eastbound and westbound I-696 will be closed at Ryan Road from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m Monday for sign truss work.

In Oakland County, the right lane of eastbound I-696 will be closed from Drake to Farmington roads, and again from Orchard Lake to Middlebelt roads from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday for maintenance work. In addition, the ramp from northbound Orchard Lake Road to eastbound I-696 will be closed at the same time.

I-75:

In Oakland County, the left two lanes of northbound I-75 will be closed from Big Beaver to Wattles roads from 9 p.m. Saturday until 11 a.m. Sunday for pavement repair.

I-75/M-10:

In Detroit, the ramp from northbound M-10 to southbound I-75 will be closed from 9 p.m. Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday for bridge repair.

M-3 (Gratiot Ave):

In Macomb County, the left lane of northbound and southbound Gratiot will be closed between 8 Mile and 10 Mile roads from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday for the Crusin' Gratiot Festival.

M-39 (Southfield Freeway):

In Oakland County, beginning Friday, June 15 and ending Friday, June 22, the 8 Mile Road entrance ramp to northbound M-39 will be closed between 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily for punch list work. In addition, the right lane of northbound M-39 will be closed from 8 Mile Road to M-10 during the same time frame.

In Wayne County, the southbound M-39 ramps to east and west I-94 are scheduled to open at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 15.

The following ramps will remain closed until 9 p.m. Friday, June 22:

  • Eastbound I-94 to Northbound M-39
  • Eastbound I-94 to Southbound M-39/Pelham Road

In Detroit, the Warren Avenue exit and entrance ramps to and from southbound M-39 will be closed from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday for maintenance work. The Grand River exit and entrance ramps to and from southbound M-39 will be closed from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday for maintenance work.

M-59:

In Macomb County, two lanes will be closed on eastbound M-59 from Van Dyke Ave to Hayes Road beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday and ending at 5 a.m. Tuesday for pavement repair.

Beginning the week of June 18:

I-96:

In Oakland County, a single lane will be closed on eastbound I-96 at Kent Lake Road from 7 p.m. Monday until 4 a.m. Tuesday for ongoing bridge work.

In Wayne County, intermittent right lane closures at locations on eastbound I-96 from Newburgh to Middlebelt daily from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. beginning Monday, June 18 for one month. The lane closure is needed for soil testing.

M-53 (Van Dyke Avenue):

In Macomb County, the left lane of southbound Van Dyke will be closed over the Clinton River from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday for bridge maintenance.

I-275/I-94:

In Wayne County, northbound I-275 will be reduced to one lane at I-94 from 10 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday for ongoing bridge work at the interchange.
